Laurnea – I Remember

Her name is Laurnea and she’s an expressive, soulful vocalist and a writer of soul-affirming lyrics. I Remember is her fourth solo album.
Atlanta-based Laurnea Wilkerson released her first solo album in 1997, following an earlier career that included stints as the vocalist with the UK’s Loose Ends, as a member of Arrested Development, and a member of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra project. She is also works as an actress, appearing in several films including Hoodlum ( in which she appeared as a Thirties nightclub singer and performed It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) accompanied by the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Sing, Spike Lee’s School Daze and a TV special starring Whoopi Goldberg.
Early in her career Laurnea was a backing singer for Patti Labelle and James Ingram, and was the opening act for Maxwell on his first US tour. In the early Nineties she lived in London for five years after replacing Jane Eugene as the voice of Loose Ends, and her debut solo album Betta Listen was recorded in England at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studio.
Her good friend and fellow Atlanta resident India.Arie co-wrote two songs and co-produces one of them, the instantly hooky Doin’ It For Me. She recalls: “I have known India for a very long time. She was about 19 and we met at a club date where I was performing. We started talking and have been best friends ever since”.
