Rahsaan Patterson – Wines & Spirits
DOMECD88
“Wines & Spirits” – the fourth solo album from Los Angeles singer-songwriter Rahsaan Patterson.
The superb album – three years after his acclaimed ‘After Hours’ set – sees him reunited with producer Keith Crouch, who worked on his 1997 MCA debut album, as well as continuing his lengthy partnership with Jamey Jaz.
The new album features a wide range of styles from the hip-hop flavour of ‘Time’, featuring rapper Johnny Onyx, to the Eighties-influenced ‘No Danger’ and the mid-tempo US single ‘Stop Breaking My Heart’. He ends the album with an acoustic version, with full string session, of the Janis Ian ballad ‘Stars’, which reflects on the fleeting nature of fame. He also gets to rock out on the gospel-tinged ‘Oh Lord (Take Me Back)’, recorded with SugaRush Beat Company.
One of the most gifted contemporary vocalist around – and one that you should definitely check out!
